Free PC game giveaways: how they work
Every week Epic Games makes at least one paid PC game free to keep. Claim it before the timer runs out and it stays in your library permanently — no subscription, no trial. This page tracks what is free right now, what is coming next, and giveaways running on Steam, GOG, itch.io and IndieGala, so you do not have to check each store yourself.
- Are Epic Games giveaways really free?
- Yes. Epic gives away paid PC games every week and the copy is yours permanently — there is no trial period and no subscription. You only need a free Epic Games account, and you have to claim the game before the giveaway ends.
- Do I keep the game forever?
- Yes, as long as you claim it while it is free. Once claimed, the game stays in your Epic library even after the giveaway ends and even if you never spend money on the store.
- How often does Epic give away free games?
- Usually once a week, with the new giveaway replacing the previous one. Some weeks Epic gives away two or more titles, and around the winter holidays it often runs a daily giveaway.
- What is the difference between free-to-play and a giveaway?
- A free-to-play game is always free to download and usually earns money from in-game purchases. A giveaway is a normally paid game that is temporarily free to claim — you get the full game, but only during a limited window.
- Do I need to install anything to claim a free game?
- No. You can claim a giveaway from the store page in a browser and it will be added to your account. You only need the launcher when you actually want to download and play it.
